Once in a Wee Village
This is not a normal story, nor is it easy to know if all of it is true. Most of it has come from a source, an almost invisible source, as few will ever speak to this leprechaun, being that he is a recluse. This story was passed on by his mother, and by her mother before her. Yet, you can find today evidence of the events that took place, and the castle, although almost mythical; can be seen and even entered into. This was the realm of Fergus, having borrowed his name from a warrior that once was akin to the very pirates in the story.
Fergus was a quiet and somewhat dangerous leprechaun. It was not his size that made him dangerous, but what he knew, and he knew way too much about a great many things. In his ramblings he told me what had been handed down to him, a sword not of metal, but of knowledge that is far more dangerous than the sharp edge of steel.
Now Fergus was careful to not let anyone know where he lived, due to the collection of years of carefully planned escapades by generations of his family to gain control of that what was not needed by others, and so must be protected. His mother had carefully guarded the belongings as to pass it along to the next. His mother’s mother had also guarded these things. In their small abode, amass with precious metals and jewels that had not been seen for centuries by the humans, was the more of value and never spoken of collection of the Books. These books were a matched set and were the very center and pulse of leprechaun existence for in the Books were kept all things leprechaun, and without them much would be lost. It was regarding the Books that I had come into the picture, for when a leprechaun asks for help, there is not a way I could refuse, for one of the Books had gone missing. The story of the Books started long ago………
The story as told to me starts back centuries ago when Clevis the Clever Leprechaun was taking a wheeled barrow of special goods to a nearby trading place to parlay for other goods the family required. The unusual load of goods was collected over time, mostly having been found on beaches from ships that had washed in pieces to shore, leaving the fascinating array of objects in the sand after severe storms. The rocky coast of their quiet forest was usually gifted with the items of jewels and stones they loved so much. Though not easy to find such items it was common for the leprechauns to seek these objects out. The qualities of the beautiful gems were not just of an attractive manner, but had the ability to bend light and help in the creating of illusions. It was a favorite pastime of the leprechauns that had learned over centuries this special craft of what seemed to be magic but was in fact a simple physical quality of the world.
Now it was time to use these selected special items in trade to obtain other customary articles for the comfort of the small hidden abodes of the leprechauns that were scattered through the forest along the coast of the ancient island. Clevis the Clever was a curious sort and had a trained eye for shinning object or things that reflect or bend light. He had been put to the task of trading their family goods. On the way to a neighboring village to trade his family goods, he stopped to see what was hanging in a tree near the path he was on. He wondered off the path to see a little closer and, as he approached the object, a snap was heard and he found himself hanging upside down in the air. Shocked, he looked around to see he was alone though he seemed to be trapped in what was intended for an animal. He closed his eyes, and wished a magic spell, passing his hand over the ropes that bound him, and was allowed to loosen himself and jump down. He was still alone. Now he knew what the object in the tree was, it was a sword, yet a broken one. His eye had caught it in passing to draw his attention to a jewel in the hand grip. Not to be any longer distracted, he returned to the path and started to walk on his way, when he realized his goods were missing from where he had left them. He looked around frantically puzzled by the missing goods, but they were gone along with the cart he was using to carry them.
The mother of Clevis the Clever was not happy with this turn of events as it was reported later in the day at his arrival home. Leprechauns were not often bothered by others due to their reputation of unexplainable abilities, which were a carefully guarded secret. They seemed to appear and disappear at will. No human really understood how this was accomplished and worse, leprechauns could play nasty tricks on you if you were to draw their attention in the wrong manner. This event of missing goods was a common experience for those living in the area and passing by at sea for it was the realm of pirates. These particular pirates were not the usual either, in a land where pirating clans were accepted as normal. The pirates of this clan were the swiftest and most cunning pirates in history, but even more unusual, these pirates had a Queen, who was also the captain of ships and men that enjoyed the art of overtaking passing ships and relieving them of their cargo. There were always some negotiations to be exercised first as to the fees for ships to pass safely; to protect them from harm you might say. If the captain of the intruding ship was not of a friendly type and unwilling to comply with such fees, he was relieved of his ship and its cargo.
Now such dealings were
common to other humans, but rarely did the business of pirating extend
itself to the local land loving inhabitants of faerie and leprechaun.
It was fair game for the little people to enjoy what was left around and
not protected, and little was ever said of it. Even in modern times
you will hear of missing things explained easily by the fact that they
were unguarded, and vanished. Children are often the target of leprechaun
tricks since they can become easily distracted while the little ones relieve
them of their money or other interesting objects. These stories
of children’s missing articles are often taken as valid though it
may seem there was other matters going on to explain the chocolate stains
on the child’s clothing appearing to be excessive spending on sweets. (a
favorite leprechaun trick) Well.……….that’s another story.
A stir was about now as
Clevis the Clever was being questioned for clues to the whereabouts of
the missing goods. A search was conducted at the location in question,
and they did find clues sure enough. There was a boot print, and
of course the broken sword and rope that been used to trick Clevis the
Clever. But the trick had been set not for animals.
Now the leprechauns would set about to get information. It seemed logical to start with the pirates, since they were well known for taking booty from whatever was the best source. Even within the code of piracy there was a code of honor. This code now appeared to have been violated. One of the rarely spoken agreements that had lasted through time was that the little people would not be bothered over small things that vanished. After all, it was a source of entertainment for them to sit around a candle at night and wonder of the many places such things had originated from in far away lands as they practiced their skills at creating illusions of vision. The pirates had in the course of their illustrious careers of disrupting misled ships, provided many things washed ashore or left for the leprechauns as unguarded during their happy moments of indulging in the mead wine they loved so much.
Clevis the Clever in reasoning
this question with mother Marion, pulled out the Book of Agreements and
Disagreements from its resting place in the wall. Looking carefully,
he said, “yes I am correct, it was said in the Book of Agreements
thus, There shall be no item removed by will or otherwise through other
means if once in the possession of the scribes of, or possessors of such
agreements.” That settled it.
Clevis the Clever now looked
farther into the book to the section of Disagreements. After a few
moments he found what he was looking for. It was the disagreements
with the local humans they shared the land with. He spoke,
“It is within our understanding that we disagree with regards to returning
that which is unguarded while the similar and certain privilege is not
allowed to the other party of the disagreement.”
This of course was a one sided
agreement, but acceptable due to other agreements that would allow for
the balance of things, and the balance of things was foremost in all Agreements
and Disagreements. Due to the fact that things had gone missing,
the leprechauns would be tasked to see if there was, in fact, a slander
at hand concerning the Disagreements.
Now the little ones had set about and were watching the local pirates for clues. Rarely did one speak to them, but sometimes it was necessary to find one in the mood to talk. There was no Agreement regarding this one sided way of speech, but it was the way it was done due to the foggy minds of humans. They waited for night. A fire of the black bog grass had been burning at the cliff castle by the water nearby and smoke drifted over the tall grass with a fog of cover. The homes of the little ones over time were carefully dug into the landscape not far away as to not be seen, and even though near by, they had created illusions to prevent their detection in the dense forest nearby. In addition, tunnels were all over the area to help them move without confronting the humans or some of the other large animals they did not care to meet such as the Boar, with his fierce and unreasoning attitude. Half way down what appeared to be a shear, impassable cliff, was the door to their tunnel built there for easy and safe passage near the steps retreating to the harbor far below. The secret passage was to the hills near by and the homestead of the leprechauns and other magical creatures, but also as by Agreements made, was the entrance of the massive pirate stronghold of goods.
Clevis the Clever and Jonathan the Last, were put to the task of spying. They were going through the tunnel to watch and get information this night. It was after a long day as the sun did not settle until the day had seemed twice long. It was a day of barnacle removal and creening the ships on a beach nearby below the cliffs, to make them run sleeker in the water. The changing of ships designs were the special talents of the pirates, for they knew the sea like no others. This ship would be laid on its side having been beached. Ropes were attached to the masts and pulled over for easy access to the hull of the ship. It was hard work, but was needed to give them the advantage of speed to overtake their prey on the waters. It was after such a day of work that the night guard position was taken up outside the castle by Bort after he had worked all day. He was a proven warrior and had the important position of holding against an enemy should they decide to attack. He had traveled far in his youth and learned many methods of warfare from the writings of ancient people before him. He had seen and tasted many things in the larger parts of Europe from Denmark all the way to Spain. He preferred the simple life of a pirate and as a man that had gained a reputation for balance which he had found was the very heart of life itself. Such an idea of attacking this castle while Bort was there would not be smart as they were on the edge of a cliff and surrounded by a wall of Gorse that was planted for the purpose, as well as other defenses which would limit the amount of soldiers that could access the castle at any given moment. This made any invading force manageable, for Bort by himself was able to defend a position and could not be surrounded, due to the cliff at his back. There had been invaders in the past who had attempted to overtake the castle and failed. It was a mystery to other clans in their pursuit for power as to how this pirate Queen Clare was able to obtain such power and control. But the secrets were well protected.
Clevis the Clever took Jonathan the Last with him. Jonathan the Last was an assistant to Clevis the Clever for the learning of skills in the shaping of light. He was also the scribe for the Book of Places for which he was often the witness thereof. When Jonathan was born, his mother named him at the moment when the father had stuck his head in the door to ask her of the name for his new son. Her comment was that he would be Jonathan and also that he was the Last. The name had stuck since that time.
It was a typical noisy
pirate night and the leprechauns had no problem walking up to the very
wall at the edge of the castle where a large fire roared keeping the area
lit, and smoke drifted. They waited for an opportunity to ask Bort
of the pirates about the unfortunate event that had taken place.
Later as it grew quiet and he was sipping his wine from a large vessel,
they quietly moved next to him from behind the wall, and asked, “Who has
taken the goods from the path in the forest?” The first time
the question was not answered as he tilted his head up as though someone
was there and being that he was on watch at the castles edge.
Not seeing any thing, he took it to be of his own mind and decided to sing
to himself as was usual after consuming the mead wine. He sang
a song to himself… “a seaman’s ways is the only way and” again the
voice came to him… “Who has taken the goods from the path in
the forest?” Humor stuck him and he sprayed the mead wine out
over the fire in a flame like torch. This time he answered himself and
began singing. “wish it was me…oh a seaman’s way is the only way.”
The voice behind the wall continued, “who has the boot with the split
heal?” The pirate stopped for a minute to answer himself… “oh…
heeeeeeee was the one that escaped…ha ha ha. Chased him all over
we did…out to the island and back…we’ll find the scoundrel”.
Now the picture was not
clear, but it seemed Bort knew of this boot type that had been fashioned
in the shape of a hoof like that of the mountain climbing long curly horn
sheep, for climbing on rocks. But he was not able to talk more as
his speech had become blurred to match his mind.
Clevis the clever and
Jonathan the Last returned to the home place. They had assumed
the boot mark, at the place of the event in question, would take a path
to the coastal waters where the pirates lived nearby but had not seen the
marks after they had left sight of the incident. Now, it seemed there were
others involved. It was time to find out who they were.
Clevis the Clever went
into the tunnels to an even smaller home of the wisest faerie he knew,
to seek help. Now these faeries are small creatures, but they have
abilities that even leprechauns do not have. Most of all, so quickly
and unseen can they move about that sometimes they are thought to be dragonflies.
Being that they are moving too fast to be clearly seen, humans often spy
them as a glare of light.
Once an agreement was made
to obtain the needed help, two faeries set out to see what could be to
the east. Soon we would find out if there were intruders.
Clevis the Clever went back to the site of the incident to see if there was further evidence not previously seen. He had made the guess that any tell tale signs of foot prints would be in the direction of the coastal waters near the castle, but, now he had new ideas that maybe something else was afoot. A careful inspection of the area produced yet another clue, a deep mark in the soil that had not been washed by rain and had the same heel impression as found before. A little further up the path Clevis the Clever stumbled right over the very wheeled cart he had used. It had been discarded. He would now be on to something. He returned to the home and waited for any news from the faeries to see if he could in fact find the location of the intruders.
The pirates were waking up the next morning in their usual stupor. Bort who had the guard the nite before was still talking to himself and laughing at himself for it. He had the unpleasant duty of making sure no one approached the castle from the northwest corner which was also the area the privy dumped into the sea… leaving an odor not unlike the far end of an oncoming boar. Having that post often left one requiring an adequate amount of mead to dampen the senses. He picked up his sword and food bag to go get some rest in the quiet of the forest where he had laid the thick wool sheep skins for his comfort. As he picked up his gear, he saw a small foot print in the mud next to the wall. It had just started raining, and before he could get a clear look at it, the rain washed it away. It looked as though, a tiny person had been there just about where he had been sitting the night before. He told his fellow pirate about it, and was laughed at. “Seeing the little people again are ye”? Oh well, maybe it was a deer with shoes on. He went to get his rest.
Bort dreamed of his ventures on the seas, a place he much preferred to be. To test yourself against nature is a most satisfying way to live and he took every opportunity to venture out and get away from the land of long grass and marshes from which large dragonflies would survey you as though you were a meal to them. In the bay that harbored the vessel they used, which was one of many, you could hear the decks creek as the oars bounced about. A rope was attached to the vessel at the high point of the preferred single mast attack ship. The single sail was only used to conserve strength for voyages in the pursuit of goods lying about. The rope was connected to the cliff castle through a hole in the stone wall and connected to a large bell like device that would alarm the owner if it were to be disturbed. The top of the castle had walls and a viewing area to see the ocean and surrounding hills and forest for some distance.
The ships owner was Clair. Her’s were the long boats much like her ancestor’s that had come to the islands hundreds of years ago. This vessel had been magnificently planned having the experience of generations of pirates before them. While most Lords and Chieftains were interested in many sails and larger hulls to carry cargo and many men, the pirates preferred the swift and sleek long boat hull of the famous Vikings that had proven the design so well. With an ability to move and turn quickly, they could strike their target, load their booty and leave with little other disturbance but discoloring the water a bit. The long boats were easy to move for boarding, where others of the larger galleon hulls were unable to resist the numbers of fast moving smaller vessels. Nor could they fire cannon due to tactics of the pirates staying out of the line of fire, since the cannons often would not move except to project a metal object to another large vessel or broadside target to either side of the boats.
The passing vessels routing the coast of that particular rocky and rugged mass of rock Clair called home, cared not to visit the land until they arrived at the desired port much farther north or south, due to the opportunities to find themselves at the sea bottom in the midst of jagged rocks in the water. All caution was taken not to get off course and to avoid being seen by the pirates that ruled that area by sheer craftiness and aggressiveness not shared by other clans of the islands. A fair fee to be paid by passing ships would guarantee an agreement of passage and advice on how to navigate without finding the hidden rocks in the water. Some were wise to ask the advice and hand over the requested fees. Others were not to the liking of the Queen and laughed at such advice from a mere woman. She would not press the matter on them regarding the hazards ahead, leaving it to them to find out for themselves. In this manner the vessels that were often captained by the unwise, provided that which washed up onshore only when it was too late to change course and avoid the treacherous coastline in the strong winds that dominated the sea of the west. The failure of the captains to make proper agreements provided many things to the delight of the leprechauns.
The name of Clare had become famous having been passed on by the few survivors that returned home, but she was accustomed to bad treatment and disrespectful mannerisms by the men of the sea she encountered and overtook. Her own crew had due respect having seen her prove many times over that she was worthy as a captain as well as a warrior. She had from a young age been drawn to that which was not acceptable for a woman to indulge in. Her father had taken her with him on the ventures to pillage and plunder at her insistence, seeking the booty of unsuspecting passersby. He had once, on her first voyage out, instructed her to stay below when they had encountered an enemy and fearing for her life he fought to remove the warriors from his vessel. She had come above to enjoy the excitement despite the fact that she could have been run through or otherwise damaged by weapons that were at the least, dangerous even for the holder. Having shown no fear, she then began at a young age to learn the skills of a warrior with the cunning and prowess unknown by others.
Her hair had been short
from a self inflicted shearing at a young age in order to not draw attention
to her own sex, being that a woman would not be seen on a ship of this
type. Clare had never been subject to minding orders and customs
and had become herself a warrior as she gained experience in the business
of navigating and the shipping of merchandise. The men she encountered
that gave her no respect, if not careful, would find themselves one day
at the wrong end of her sword. There were indeed many who underestimated
her to the end result of their demise. She hoped one day to have
an island named after her as a tribute to her seaworthiness.
Many thought she had made a dark agreement to have obtained such power.
It was true she had made an agreement, but a secret one with the leprechauns.
Clevice the Clever was
waiting back at the village for some word from the faeries. He had,
after some rest, been snoring loudly when he felt the impact of something
hit his forehead. Startled to awareness, he looked up to see one
of the small flying creatures had returned to alert him to the latest scrap
of useful information obtained from long hours of searching through forests.
A clue had been found due to the smoke of oak wood as it was readied to
heat the evening meal and lifted itself through the trees where it was
seen by the faeries. A closer examination found that they had, in
fact, found the encampment of intruders onto the land holding of Clare,
and they were of a local variety as well. The story begin to fit
together, for the man had now been seen with the missing goods stashed
close by, as well as the very object of the foot impression. Men,
speaking over the fire, made mention of the recent problems. He was
wanted for discussion by the very Queen of the pirates that shared the
nearby forests with the leprechauns, for the man was a neighboring clan
leader in the absence of his father.
Services to the Queen
Bushsnout the Great
The monk was not inexperienced in such matters and had, over time, dug a tunnel through the floor from inside the abbey to the cliffs on the one side of the island which was not guarded since it could not be climbed. Bushsnout found his tunneled path out to the cliffs, and down a rope and away from the island in the cover of night. After he had left, the monk then the following day told the Queen what he had done so she would then leave him peace. Since it was not within the ability of the monk to lie, she agreed that there was no longer a reason to stay. It was never told as per the fate of the monk.
This event at the abbey
had taken place within a fortnight, and in the scheme of things, played
a role in current goings on, as it were. Being that the Queen’s shiphands
were elsewhere, returning to his land near his village castle, Bushsnout
had taken the path that led through the cover of forest surrounding the
Queens castle and lands. Under the circumstances, it seemed to him
the safest place to pass through on the way home.
It was reasoned now at this time
that this was the very man who had stumbled upon the leprechauns
most valued goods in the forest, not to mention the fact that they were
now in his possession. Things were looking up but there was
work to be done to resolve the matter.
In the past there were
unwritten agreements among chieftains. The father of Bushsnout
himself had lived by these rules of balance, but the current son of Bushsnout,
was not happy with things the way they were. They had once plundered
with the best of them when there were foreign invaders or merchant ships
passing by from other parts of the world. It was fair game to take
a reasonable fee to guarantee the safety of the passing ships.
As his father had taken up other matters in foreign lands, he faded into
the background in the mind of his son who then had trained others to collect
fees and tax from the surrounding clan properties. In this pursuit
which was not agreed on, he had taken cattle and other goods from those
living along the coast and inland where the fields supported wealth.
Word was getting out of this pursuit, and it was ignored until hundreds
of head of cattle began to vanish. Clair had sent out spys
to find the source of the problem. Bushsnout had not only decided
to take over the land of the Queen but had also said to others that he
considered the Queen to be a lesser person and not worthy of having a landslip
or be able to defend it against any enemy.
He had plundered his own
people and stolen everything he could take. He tricked the people
he did business with and made agreements with enemies to steal the cattle
belonging to others leaving the food supply in danger. He had no
respect for the neighboring Queen Clair, or other women, for that matter.
He had made many women slaves. In time he was causing a warring nation
where it was not needed. This type of leadership had been seen before
and it was time to deal with the matter before he became too powerful.
As he only employed those who could make weapons, this pointed to a problem
soon to come.
The Queen had at this time wanted to contact the leprechauns. It was with their help the Bushsnout would be dealt with. She did not know of the missing objects. The faeries had left signs at the castle and the Queen was expecting to be contacted. Clevis the Clever and Jonathan the Last waited for the right time to make contact, for it was not often the Book of Agreements and Disagreements was required to find a solution, but, it would be required for this renegade land owner.
They met at the tunnel entrance on the cliff where none other could see or hear the words. They sat and spoke. Queen Clare was visibly upset at the situation. She offered for the leprechauns to speak first, wishing to discover what they had to say. “We wish to retrieve what is ours and has been taken by the Bushsnout” said Clevis the Clever. “ It has been told you wish to deal with the Bushsnout as well. What is it you wish to have that we may assist you”.
The Queen had decided that words in the book would allow an adjustment to the world of Bushsnout. “I wish to place him to the Realm of Boar since he is more of Boar than of man”. He is not providing what is needed for his people to exist in a balanced manner and has acted in the disagreeable manner of the Boar.” There was no further explanation required as her wishes would have a great respect in the judgment of the use of Realms. It was agreed that the book would be opened to clarify the action, and decide where the results would be recorded. It was found that the power of the “Step that is not there” could be used as a door to the Realm of Boars. They would allow the Bushsnout to find his way there, and providing distraction for his learning before getting there, would be happy to make the entrance into the Realm of Boars which by its very nature would satisfy all his needs. The Queen agreed to this, and that the entrance of the action would be recorded in the Book of Placements. In this way, things would not be lost.
A team of men were gathered and preparations were made to place the Bushsnout in the Realm of Boars. The leprechauns were working on the right balance of gems to open the door to the Realm of the Boars and place it at the point of the steps on the edge of the cliff leading down from the side of the castle. The Step that is not there, an illusion of light, was fashioned to appear to be a stone at the edge of the cliff which was a turn of the steps down to the tunnels and shipping harbor. The step was not there except in appearance. If a person stepped on this, they would tumble over the side of the cliff. All hands at the castle were told of this and made to practice the steps without using the step that wasn’t there. If an enemy was following you in pursuit, you simple lead them to the steps, and not step in the place where the step appeared to be but was not. It was effective….. as most tricks of the leprechauns were.
The door of the Realm was prepared at the step. Some distance a way near the camp of Bushsnout, the path was adjusted for his travel. It had been a large cluster of prickly gorse bush in the middle of the path. The leprechauns made an illusion using their gems and crystals to make the bush appear not to be there. It would appear to be a clear path right past the bushes of gorse. They called it “The Path that is not there”.
The day was long and the
team of soldiers had moved to the location of the Bushsnout. He had
been sitting with food and wine and not armed or guarding the stolen goods.
From behind him came a group of soldiers. He heard them and ran straight
forward away from the camp to grab his sword, but it was missing.
At that moment a large boar had come from the bushes and started towards
him. He ran down a path as fast as he could to outrun the boar.
The path would lead to the castle through the forest. He slowed down
having thought he lost the visitors when another boar came from the thicket
of bushes. The boar has pointed horns on both sides of
it’s nose and can gouge you with fierce power. They are feared by
most as it should be. Bushsnout kept running into the dimly
lit forest and not being able to think clearly ran full force onto “The
Path that is not there”. He landed in the middle of the Gorse.
The needles pierced his skin and he was bleeding in pain. His face
had become even more ugly. He pulled himself free and walked
towards the castle though it was in the direction of certain enemies; he
would rather talk to an enemy than face another boar unarmed.
There was noise behind him and he started running again to keep ahead of
the armed men behind him. This kept on for hours and he was
tired, thirsty and sore from the gorse. He approached the castle and carefully
looked to see if anyone was there. It appeared to be quiet as he
moved into the open area where he saw two men on one side of the castle,
and a boar on the other...he ran straight ahead toward the cliff where
he had seen the men run for cover to avoid the boar. The boar was
coming at him from his right side as he approached the steps to escape
down the mountain and possibly to a boat if there would be one. He
came down several steps and just as he turned the corner he saw Clair smiling
at him as his foot found “The Step that is not there” and he vanished off
the edge of the cliff. There had been a shout as he disappeared into
the Realm of the Boar which was taken as a sign that he was happy in the
new place. This realm was a special place where the leprechaun had
placed many animals and birds for their protection. This indeed was
a special new home.
Following the return of the missing
item and a feast to celebrate the return to the balance of things, the
Queen had sent a gift of gratitude to the leprechauns of crystals and jewels
that made them happy indeed as it was the source of their fun, and power
as well. They helped in the balancing of the damage done by Bushsnout
to return the land and people to happy quiet villages again.
It had been a most interesting adventure.
Jonathon the Last sat down in the morning as the sun peaked through the damp forest of birds and animals chirping to make an entry in the Book of Places. He opened the page and wrote: As per the agreements in the book of Agreements and Disagreements, a new member was added to Book of Places by name of Bushsnout as he had shown the correct personality to make a life in the Realm of Boars as it pertains to the type of creatures placed there. Jonathon the Last contemplated the holdings of the Bushsnout for he had amassed much in his plundering. His Castle was on a cliff not farther than a day’s journey. Soon the Queen of Pirates would travel to view what was won. She would take over the land and holdings and make agreements with the ones that lived there.
Jonathon the Last looked over the agreements by the Queen and its sacrifices by her to obtain the services of the leprechauns. For the leprechauns, this would mean changes of power in the future and the ability to walk visibly in the midst of others without being known. The first born girl would be the gift and also guarantee of mutual agreements to come for many years. She would be taught the ways of the leprechauns and the skills of sailors and warriors and be the first to walk in both worlds. There was indeed a balance of things as it was supposed to be.
Jonathon had pondered
all this, then looked over the Book of Places to see what else had been
placed in the Realm of Boars in millennium past.
The other members of the realm
that were placed there were listed: T-Rex, Pterodactyl, Lion, condors,
horned boars, fanged wolves, alligators, sharks, whales, dolphins, giant
dragonflies, giant mosquitoes. Komodo dragons Most of the species
were selected for their large teeth and the nature they had of battle to
extinction.
The Book of Places was closed for this was the end of the day.
