These beautiful One Of a Kind Handmade Clay Oil Lamps are designed
after the type of lamp used to light the homes of
ancient Rome, Greece, Jerusalem and Egypt.
The inside of the lamps have been glazed to keep the oil from soaking
through the clay.
To use your lamp, simply add olive oil, the same oil you would cook
with, into the base of the lamp.
Olive oil is the same fuel used in ancient times as it was readily
available.
Allow the wick to soak up the oil for a few minutes, then light.
You can adjust the wick for smaller or larger flame. Use care in moving
your lamp so as not to allow any of the oil to spill out.
Sit back and enjoy the soft glow your lamp will provide.
A note from Pat......
I have been a mud child all my life. I remember making mud pies
at a very early age.
My Mother used to tell a story of how she dressed me in a ruffled white
dress for church and told me to wait on the porch, that she would be right
out.
When she came out I was gone. She called and called my name and I finally
came skipping up the sidewalk with my little friend, both of us covered
in mud!
My first introduction to mud as an art form was in 1979 at Ventura Community
College, in Ventura, California.
I started taking classes and eventually became the Lab Assistant, helping
other students, firing the kilns for both ceramic and sculpture classes,
mixing clay bodies and glazes. When I transferred to the University
of California at Santa Barbara to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Cultural
Anthropology
I continued to work at Ventura College. I was able to have direction
by two of the most gifted clay artists I have ever met, Jim Danisch and
Myra Toth.
I am fortunate now to have my studio at my home in Tyler County, West
Virginia.
I named my studio Blue Finch Studio after the Indigo Bunting that has
been an inspiration to me since making West Virginia my home,
and I hope to spend the rest of my days up to my elbows in mud.
I know you will love these beautiful treasures as much as I loved creating
them!
Blessings from West Virginia and Blue Finch Studio,
Pat Ordile
